About JB "Radio, TV, Writing and Traveling" Right out of high school, JB got into radio. It was the first outlet for his writing talent. His first station manager was Adrian Cronauer (remember Good Morning Vietnam?) at WPVR-FM in Roanoke Virginia in 1974. JB wrote news copy and commercials for the station. For the next 5 years, he worked at. and wrote for, several other radio stations in Virginia and the Carolinas. Then, JB got the TV bug. He started at WSPA-TV as a reporter/photographer and rose through the ranks to weekend anchor. One of his fellow cub reporters was future talk show host Liza Gibbons. Along the way, he insisted on writing his own scripts. While JB was at WSPA, he won his first Associated Press award for spot news coverage. JB also covered preparations for the very first launch of the space shuttle (STS-1) in 1981 for WDBO-TV/Orlando and the first Grand Prix race through Miami's Tamaimi Park for WCKT-TV/Miami in 1985 . Moving back home to Western North Carolina, JB got married and settled down. He took a 9 to 5 job, moved into a quaint little house and tried to lead the normal life. But, none of that lasted long. In a couple of years, he found himself in New Hampshire, working and writing in radio. While in Concord, the Associated Press awarded him his second news award for coverage of the 1986 Presidential primary. He also expanded his writing career, hosting a weekly columnist in several small town newspapers. In 1990, JB moved himself and his cat Sam to Denver. Within a couple of years, he was the top rated evening DJ on KYGO. He was voted Best Night DJ by Westword Magazine. Today, JB is their morning traffic reporter. He still lives in Colorado with is wife and best friend Cindy, Beka "the wonder dog" and their two cats Foster and Murray.
No matter where he was or what he was doing, writing has always been
part of JB's life, first copywriting commercials for radio, then
news copy for TV, and today, freelance writing for magazines across
the country.
When he's not writing, JB enjoys growing heirloom vegetables in his garden,
experimenting with original recipes in his kitchen, traveling with
Cindy through America and Mexico, helping others solve their
conflicts with urban wildlife, photography and an
occasional poker game.
